Environmental measures involving hotels

Since April 2007, we have been working with hosts in the village to help them set up environmental systems in their establishments. This is a test scheme which will close on 4 July and will then be opened up to all hoteliers and hosts. The scheme has three stages:

-An inventory -A reflection on what actions to implement -The implementation and dissemination of actions.

These 3 meetings are personalised. We have chosen to use this approach due to the disparity of hotels in Megève. As well as these 3 meetings, there will be regular environmental coffee meetings for an open discussion of the actions carried out and their effectiveness. Professionals will be present during these meetings to best advise our partners. The first environmental coffee meeting will take place on 4 July. Megève Tourisme’s role in this scheme is to provide the necessary hotels to hotels to implement it.

Rambler’s Commitment

"You will come across me while walking through a fragile environment; mountain flowers, don’t pick me, think of future ramblers. In a bouquet we are already withered by the time you get us home.

Hear the silence of nature punctuated by birdsong, the gushing water. This environment is home to numerous routes, stay on the paths, don’t take short cuts which will cause irreversible damage to nature. This mountain has been cultivated by man for generations. Farmers are welcoming you onto their land, so please respect fences and fields where flocks upkeep the natural environment.

What pleasure it is to share picnics and snacks in the open air. A well deserved moment of rest in this virgin spot should not mean future generations will see nothing more than a rubbish dump. You brought your meal with you, so please take your rubbish home. Before leaving, check the weather pack wet weather gear even if the weather is fine and inform family and friends of your itinerary. Good walking boots are vital equipment for ramblers.

Don’t forget, in the mountains you need to keep hydrated. Sun cream and sunglasses are vital."
